Cape Town
encompass such a wide area from Muizenberg up to Houtbay and from Campsbay to
Melkboschstrand that we will only focus on the most interesting areas. Following
are some of the most visited areas in and around Cape Town.
Cape Town
city centre is predominantly comprised of high-rise business buildings. None
the less one can still find exquisite housing complexes between the few
residential buildings. Since a couple of years
there are
developments in apartments to get more people in the city.
The Gardens
is situated between Cape Town city centre and the foot of Table Mountain. Lovely
houses and much greenery as the name “Gardens” suggest. Since a couple of years
there is a development in restaurants and shops and that makes Gardens a good
place to be.
The historical Malay
Quarter at Bo-Kaap hugs the slopes of Signal Hill and is close to the city
centre.
The houses were built in
the late 18th and early 19th centuries during the time that the Dutch East
India Company (V.O.C.) imported slaves in the early colonial days.
The
Waterkant and Greenpoint are still in development.

In the year 1996 the “city
guide of lonely planet” wrote: “ The next outcrop of land west of the
Waterfront is Greenpoint, a largely undeveloped area of reclaimed land with a
stadium, a golf course and a large Sunday market”.
The Stadium, the Golf
course (the oldest one in Cape Town) are not longer in the same position. The
Stadium is half demolished and the golf courses will be removed. The Sunday
Flea market, is still there. The latest news of course is that Greenpoint will
be the place for the world-cup socker 2010 with a brand new stadium. The
builders are busy on the places of the old Stadiium and the golf courses to
realise a big stadium for 2010.
Greenpoint and the
Waterkant are also the places for fine restaurants, bars and day and night
entertainment. (bars-disco’s a.s.o.)
In Greenpoint there are a
lot of new hotels, B&B and self-catering holiday apartments. It is in a
walking distance of 6 min. to the city-Bowl, and 12 min. to the Waterfront. By
car you are within 10 min. on the beautiful beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay.
Mouille-Point is situated on
the rocky coast like the other areas. In Mouille-Point you find the old
Lighthouse and some good apartments, to stay, as well as some good restaurants.
Following the coastline we
enter Seapoint. In the past the entertainment suburb and the place for shopping
etc. But when the Waterfront was there the function of Seapoint has changed. Nowadays
there are a lot of shops and restaurants in the Mainstreet and Regent Street
and there are much apartments buildings and hotels.
At the end of Seapoint we
met Fresney and Bantry Bay. Also here a fine coastline with many hotels,
luxuries apartments and a rocky coast.
Unless you like to buy a
real estate and you have seriously deep pockets, the only reason to stay in
Clifton is for its 4 beaches. They are beautiful. The water of the Atlantic
Ocean is cold but the beaches and the surrounding is very popular.
That is the same for Camps
Bay. In Camps Bay you will found restaurants and some shops but also here the
beach is beautiful. It is like Saint Trope in Europe.
